DRUG TESTING FOR STUDENT ATHLETES
At Ontario Local Schools, all student athletes in grades 7-12 are subject to random drug testing. The goal is to deter drug use and give students a reason to resist peer pressure. Drug testing also helps identify students who are using substances so we can intervene early and refer to treatment if needed. Student drug use interferes with a student's ability to learn and can also disrupt the teaching environment, affecting other students as well. (National institute on Drug Abuse, drugabuse.gov)
TESTING
Students and parents must sign the Athletic Policy and pay a yearly $25.00 Drug Testing Fee. Individual tests are administered by an outside agency to ensure confidentiality and validity. Currently, Sport Safe from Columbus, Ohio provides our testing services.
Any parent/guardian of a student who is already on the testing list can request that their son/daughter be tested on the next testing date by contacting Sport Safe at 614-847-0847
Any parent/guardian of a non-athlete may request that their son/daughter be added to the testing pool by paying the $25.00 Drug Testing Fee and contacting Cathleen Johnson at 419-747-7477 or [email protected].
